MLK Day-Off Camps in Philly

Working on Martin Luther King Jr. Day? Here are some options for kids while school is out.

If your kids have off on Martin Luther King Jr. Day but you have work or an adults-only service project, you’re in luck: lots of places around town are offering one-day break camps sure to entertain kids of all ages and interests!

Philly Art Center

January 17 and 20, 9 am — 3 pm (extended care optional)
Ages 5 — 12
514 Bainbridge St. (Queen Village) or 2333 Fairmount Ave. (Fairmount)

 

Kids can spend the day in the studio at Philly Art Center’s Queen Village and Fairmount locations. Age groups are split up and guided by teachers who structure creative playtime where kids can draw, build, collage, paint, and more. Full day is $80 (afternoon-only is $40), with extended care available to book at time of drop-off.

The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education

January 17 and 20, 8 am — 3 pm
Ages 5-12

Turn your kids’ days off into an adventure. On January 17, the theme is “Wizards of the Forest,” and on January 20 they’ll learn to be “Master Trackers” out in nature. Cost is $70 per day (member discounts apply), and extended day until 6 pm is available for an additional $20.

Philadelphia Rock Gyms

January 20, 9 am — 3 pm (half day and extended care available)
Ages 4 and up
B-3 3500 Scotts Lane (East Falls) and 2412 E. York St. (Fishtown)

 

Kids can spend the day learning bouldering and top rope skills, while also strengthening their problem solving, communication, and teamwork. Kids will also do team building exercises and arts and crafts. Choose from full day for $80 or half day til noon for $45. Extended care is also available for an additional $10 an hour. Philadelphia Rock Gyms have seasonal camps at all of their locations in the area, so check out their website for all the options.

Arden Theatre Company

January 20, 9 am — 5 pm
Grades K-5
Hamilton Family Arts Center, 62 N. Second St.

 

At Arden Drama School, kids can participate “Play in a Day,” where kids work together to create an entirely original play. Every workshop is unique because it is entirely up to the kids. $75 for the day.

NLArts

January 20, 8:30 am–3:30 pm

Ages 4-14

700 N. Third St.

 

Kids will spend the day engaging in collaborative art projects, and even outdoor time if weather permits. $50 per day.

Flip Out Productions

January 20, 9 am — 3 pm (half day available for ages 3-5)

Ages 4-14 (or Ages 3-5 for half-day)

2757 Frankford Ave.

 

A day full of gymnastics, dance, strength and flexibility, arts and crafts, and more. Half day for ages 3-5 runs from 9 am to noon, and is $40 per day. Full day is $60 per day.

Phield House

January 20, 9 am–3 pm (half days available)

Grades K-8

814 Spring Garden St.

 

Kids will have a fun-filled day of games and sports. Prices are $30 per half day (morning or afternoon), and $50 for each full day.

Butcher’s Sew Shop

January 20, 9 am—3 pm (with optional extended care)

Ages 6-11

800 S. Eighth St.

 

Kids can explore the art of sewing in innovative ways using hand and machine projects. No sewing experience necessary. Camp is $95, with extended care an additional cost.
