Little Ones for Literacy runs both a summer literacy camp and a Kindergarten Enrichment program to supplement half day kindergarten during the school year.
The award winning literacy camp component targets rising kindergartners – rising 2nd graders and designed to strengthen students’ literacy skills using a hands-on, interactive approach. Daily instruction from reading specialists and certified teachers includes literacy-based activities that target skills in phonemic awareness, decoding, sight word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and emergent writing. “Meet and Greet” sessions are built into the program so teachers can gain insights into each student’s individual learning style and areas for strength/growth. Low student/teacher ratios are maintained during each session to ensure highly differentiated instruction. A full literacy evaluation is given to each student at the end of the program that identifies reading levels, growth made throughout camp, and useful strategies that can be implemented at home for further support and enrichment.
The Kindergarten Enrichment program aims to supplement half day kindergarten for students interested in a literacy boost. With small teacher to student ratios, the program is able to meet the needs of students with advanced literacy skills sets as well as those with emerging literacy skill sets. Parents are given comprehensive progress reports twice throughout the 12 week program that identify areas of strength/growth and document overall improvements.
Lastly, Little Ones for Literacy also incorporates private one-on-one tutoring sessions for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
