Free Summer Programming at Sister Cities Park Brings Fun and Learning to the Parkway

Weekly “Parkway Pals” activities, outdoor concerts, and more await in this city oasis.

In the summertime, Sister Cities Park is our little Parkway paradise thanks to its wonderful splash pad and the expansive Children’s Discovery Garden boat pond. But it’s about to get even better, with a summer’s worth of free programming for families beginning this week.

The park partners with local institutions like the library and museums to bring STEAM lessons and activities on Monday and Wednesday mornings from June 4—August 30. Meanwhile, the whole family will appreciate Thursday night BYOB concerts! And that’s besides the always-present splashing sites, Free Library book cart, and on-site café. Here’s what the park has planned for this summer.

Story Art

Mondays at 10:30 am (June 4—August 13)

The Free Library of Philadelphia will lead a weekly storytime, followed by nature-themed crafts with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. If you want more reading, stop by the Free Library’s book cart, located near the boat pond across from stroller parking, and settle in for your own private storytime!

Young Science Hour

Mondays at 11:30 am (June 4—August 13)

The Franklin Institute will bring unique science experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on activities designed to teach kids about space, robotics, the earth, and more.

Grow Up Green

Wednesdays at 10:30 am (June 6—August 15)

Philadelphia Parks and Recreation will lead activities for kids age 3 and up that encourage a connection to nature and outdoor play.

Crafty Creations

Wednesdays at 11:30 am (June 6—August 15)

Come for a weekly craft project to transform everyday objects and natural materials into art, all inspired by The Fabric Workshop and Museum. The projects will use different methods each week, including papermaking, sculpture, and printing.

Nature in the Park

Wednesdays at 12:30 pm (June 6—August 15)

The Academy of Natural Sciences will bring fun-filled natural science activities to the park each week. Learn about bugs, dinosaurs, and more with games, experiments, and hands-on activities including live animal visitors and nature walks!

Pairings on the Parkway

Thursdays, 5—8 pm (June 7—August 30)

This popular BYOB event features live music by a different singer-songwriter each week, and a special summer grilling menu at the on-site Logan Square Café. If you forget to bring your wine, Chaddsford Winery is there selling wine by the bottle or glass as well. Bonus: the Children’s Discovery Garden has extended hours!
