In-Person: Smith Memorial Playground Re-Opens!

Tuesdays through Sundays

 

Smith will re-open to the public Tuesdays through Sundays 10 am-4 pm. Open areas include the nature playground, Giant Wooden Slide, and more! Note: the Tot Lot will not yet be open. Smith has painted its front lawn with the social distancing circles for outside relaxation. On select days starting on June 18, you can register to participate in Play Breaks with themed programming. All visitors will have their temperatures taken and will be required to sign a waiver before entering the Playground. Masks are required at all times. Smith will allow 100 people maximum on the Playground at one time. If the Playground is currently at capacity, families will have the option to put their names on a waitlist.


Music Theatre Philly Virtual Camp: Frozen

Monday-Friday, 9:30–11:15 am

 

Beat the summer heat by cooling off in Arendelle singing and dancing to the songs of Frozen and Frozen 2. For ages 4-9. Pre-register online.

Ballet Instruction with Tiler Peck

Weekdays at 1 pm

 

Tiler Peck, principal dancer at New York City Ballet, is teaching free daily ballet classes every day live on Instagram.

Snapology’s Online STEAM Lab

Monday-Friday, 2 pm

 

Students ages 4-14 will actively experiment with the principles of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. All programs and activities are hands-on with guided instruction from an experienced Snapologist.  Register for the whole week online (link in title) or by the day.

Philly Zoo at 2

Weekdays at 2 pm

 

Explore the zoo, go behind the scenes, talk with experts, and meet some of the zoo’s most amazing creatures every day on Facebook. They’re even gearing up to introduce new babies that haven’t been introduced yet to the public as the series goes on!

Students will build and explore the world of Pokemon as they create their own gyms, battles, and even their very own generation of Pokemon. As part of the Museum of the American Revolution’s Meet the Revolution series, costumed historical interpreters will talk about bringing African American experiences of the Revolution to life in their work. On Saturday, Noah Lewis will show a clip of his portrayal of Edward “Ned” Hector, a free African American man and soldier who fought in the Revolutionary War, one of nearly 5,000 people of color who fought during the American Revolution, followed by a personal discussion about his experiences in the field.

Global Pride 2020

Speeches, performances, film, and other content from Prides in Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and South, Central, and North America. A worldwide team of more than 100 volunteers are reaching out to Prides around the world to bring an amazing line-up of performances to this first-ever Global Pride event.

Virtual Teen Artist Workshop

This virtual workshop by Portside Arts Center is designed to help teens build a portfolio of work for school or personal use. The workshops will allow students to expand their artistic skill sets as well as to investigate their individuality and unique identities. They will create a new work of art each week. Pre-register online for one class or for a four-class pack.

Drag Queen Story Hour Pride Party

Drag Queen Story Hour performers from around the world will join together via livestream on Zoom. The party will feature readings of children’s books highlighting diverse characters and themes, as well as lip-sync performances and sing-alongs to children’s songs. Kids and families are also encouraged to dress up in their own fabulous costumes for the event! Tickets available online.

Animal Crossing Club

Join Ms. Emily on Haverford Island and help her recreate HTFL in Animal Crossing on Saturdays from 2—4 pm. Hang out with other library friends, visit the Stop N’ Swap, and more at the virtual library. Bring items to swap with others, and share your item codes to have your art featured in the Art Corner! The day’s Dodo Code will be posted on Instagram and Facebook at 1:50 pm.

When We All Vote is partnering with the 13th annual Roots Picnic, hosted by Questlove, Black Thought, and Michelle Obama. Meet the Revolution

As part of the Museum of the American Revolution’s Meet the Revolution series, costumed historical interpreters will talk about bringing African American experiences of the Revolution to life in their work. On Sunday, Kalela Williams will discuss the character she portrays – an African American teacher in Philadelphia in 1790s – and explore the challenges of developing a character based on scant historical material.
