Meet Christine

Christine is a certified postpartum doula, lactation counselor, childbirth educator, newborn care specialist, bereavement support, aromatherapist, and herbalist serving families in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Christine's postpartum philosophy

Christine's philosophy for postpartum parents is that if they take good care of the new parents in the beginning and let them rest and recover and heal and bond with their baby, they will be better parents. Our country has a long way to go in this regard, but we need to work on it each new parent at a time!

What is a Postpartum Doula?

A postpartum doula is the person who mothers the new mother after she has her baby. New parents rest, recover, heal, and bond with their new baby, while they take over keeping the family fed and hydrated, help teach baby care, help with breastfeeding, and take over their household chores like laundry, dishes, food prep, cooking, running errands, etc. until the new parents feel up to doing this on their own.

Postpartum Doula Care Includes

Christine's Care & Compassion keeps the parent fed and hydrated, assisting with breastfeeding education, assist the new parent while breastfeeding with pillows, positioning and snacks. They educate the family on how to mother the new mother. They also play with older siblings, hold or feed the baby while parent get rest or plays with older child, run interference and insulate the family from constant telephone calls and visitors, instruct parents on how to bathe and dress the baby or perform these tasks at the parent's request. They prepare meals, wash, fold, and put away baby clothes, organize the nursery by stocking diapers, laundry, etc.

They are also able to set up changing stations in well-used parts of the house, assemble the basics in a a basket for each floor of the house, to cut down on stair climbing, tidy up the kitchen, sit and listen to the parent describe their day, feelings and concerns.

They listen to the birth story, again and again, while also making suggestions for resources, referrals, and networking with other parents. They are able to answer the parent's questions, assess for problems with basic skills and adjustments and make recommendations when appropriate. They answer the questions of other family members and visitors, do the grocery shopping, offer the parent a gentle and relaxing foot or back massage, run errands with or for the parent, "babysit" while the parents are busy, change sheets on beds and cribs and maintain the overall household organization.

Christine helped my husband and prepare for labor. She also stayed with me through a grueling 24 hours of labor and had a back up doula set up to sub in for the remainder of my labor.
