A Mermaid in the Making: An Adventure of Self-Love

May 13 @ 11:30 am - 4:30 pm

Ahead of the highly anticipated motion picture release of “The Little Mermaid,” AAMP offers the perfect activity to share with someone you love! This workshop encourages children (and adults) to make dolls that celebrate their likeness and boost self-esteem- with fabric donated by Oscar-winning costume designer, Ruth Carter from Black Panther and Coming to America 2!

Join AAMP IN PERSON for a doll-making workshop to celebrate mermaids, the ocean, and the publication of MERMAID KENZIE: PROTECTOR OF THE DEEPS by Charlotte Watson Sherman. Written for every child (and adult) who loves the ocean, the author will virtually discuss the book and our connection to water and ocean pollution.

Sherri Roberts Lumpkin is a fabric doll artist specializing in therapeutic doll-making. With the use of fabric, decorative items, and positive affirmations, Sherri’s self-esteem-building lessons transform negative self-talk into positive self-talk, while you make a doll of your own design!

One doll kit offers admission to the workshop in the auditorium. It is suggested that no more than 3 people work on a doll. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please call the museum if you have any additional questions.

Both “Mermaid Kenzie: Protector of the Deeps” and “Brown Sugar Babe” are now available for purchase at the AAMP gift shop!

Two intimate workshops will be offered. Space is limited, reserve your ticket today!
