Artist Talk with Kate Stewart and Samara Weaver

August 23 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join InLiquid at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 23rd, for a two-person artist talk with Kate Stewart and Samara Weaver in the Oar Pub, Park Towne Place. Light refreshments will be served. Both Stewart and Weaver are included in the current rotational exhibition at Park Towne Place, Taking a Line for a Walk, which explores line as a formal and conceptual element where each artwork can be seen as drawing in space. Kate Stewart’s included paintings are brushy, illusionistic, and disrupted by crisp lines and hard edges.

Samara Weaver included works straddle painting and sculpture; she paints watercolor paper by the yard she then folds it into densely coiled sculptures. Both Stewart and Weaver’s playfulness pushes their artwork over the line so it exists in more than one world simultaneously. About the Artists: Kate Stewart received an MFA from The University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Dickinson College.

Stewart’s work has been included in group and solo exhibitions at TATE Modern, London, England; Plug Projects, KS; Arlington Arts Center, VA; Towson University Center for the Arts Gallery, MD; Pageant Soloveev Gallery, PA; and the Institute of Contemporary Art, PA among many others. She has created public murals in collaboration with Sprocket Mural Works in Harrisburg, PA, with Arlington Cultural Affairs in Arlington, VA and with Dickinson College’s Goodyear Gallery and Organic Farm, PA. She was selected for the annual Fleisher Wind Challenge Exhibition Series in 2005, was a Finalist for the PEW Artist Fellowship in 2008 and she received the Meyer Family Award for Contemporary Art in 2015. Kate is also an avid gardener and has been instrumental in bringing a pigment garden to West Chester University, where she teaches.

Samara Weaver is a graduate of Tyler School of Art and Architecture. Her work has been exhibited at the James May Gallery, WI; the Charlie Cummings Gallery, FL; The Delaware Art Museum, DE; and The Delaware Contemporary; DE. Weaveris fascinated with materiality, resulting in artistic exploration of various materials and using them to explore texture, color, and perspective. Weaver combines large numbers of smaller, often simple elements into multi-faceted compositions, gaining complexity and space from their combination. She is based in Wilmington, DE.
