Bethel Burying Ground Public Art Memorial Celebration

November 4 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join Mayor Jim Kenney for a celebration of the Bethel Burying Ground Public Art Memorial Project, with City officials, artist Karyn Olivier, a performance by the Philadelphia Heritage Chorale, arranged by Dr. Donald Dumpson, and cultural programming children and families following the formal remarks.

Updated designs will be shared for the memorial, which will recognize and celebrate the over 5,000 African Americans buried at the historic Bethel Burying Ground located beneath what is now Weccacoe Playground in Queen Village.

Following the formal remarks, OACCE invites families to participate in percussion and storytelling with Karen Smith and art making with Jihan Thomas and teaching artists from the Claymobile.
