Most Art Environments, like Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, are made from materials that probably would have been thrown away. Clarence Schmidt (1897-1978) was an artist who turned his house into a giant artwork. He made it out of old doors and windows in Woodstock, New York. He also made sculptures out of wood, doll parts, tin foil, hubcaps, and whatever else caught his eye. Join Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens to make Schmidt-inspired sculptures small enough to take home.
Join PMG for free tours of our fully mosaicked basement at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 pm. Learn how Schmidt influenced PMG creator Isaiah Zagar at an early age.
PECO Family Jams are PMG’s family-oriented programs, held on the second Sunday of every month between noon and 4:00 pm. Crafts and basement tours are included with regular admission to PMG. Purchase your tickets in advance.
