Women’s History Month at the Betsy Ross House: Mary Crathorne

Meet women from history and hear about their lives and times Saturdays, March 4, 11, 18, & 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.! Each Saturday, one woman from the 18th century will visit the Betsy Ross House.
Mary was a chocolate and mustard maker who took over the business from her husband after his death. In addition to selling chocolate and mustard, Mary also owned the mill used to produce these goods, located in Northern Liberties, and advertised a wide variety of spices and other dry goods for purchase. Visit her to learn more about the process of making chocolate and her life as a businesswoman in 18th century Philadelphia.
