SUMMARY:PECO Family Jams: Portraits in the Gardens
DESCRIPTION:The Magic Gardens’ current exhibition\, “Entre Raíces y Alas: Obras de Santiago Galeas / Between Roots and Wings: Works by Santiago Galeas\,” features the artist’s unique blend of realistic portraits and fantastic landscapes. Families are invited to get creative and turn their own image into a work of art using scrapbooking materials\, all while surrounded by Galeas’ stunning pieces. Families are welcome to bring a photo from home\, or have their picture taken at the Magic Gardens and printed out on the spot for free. \nFree tours of the fully mosaicked basement will be offered at 12:30\, 1:30\, 2:30\, and 3:30 pm\, where visitors can explore the many faces found throughout the Magic Gardens Museum’s mosaic collection. \nPECO Family Jams is the Magic Gardens’ family-oriented program held on the second Sunday of every month from noon to 4:00 pm. Crafts and basement tours are included with regular admission. Families are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.

The Red\, White\, & Blue To-Do will take place throughout Philadelphia’s Historic District from 7 am through the evening\, and the full schedule has officially been announced. \nThe day kicks off at 7 am with the creation of a giant Living Liberty Bell\, gathering 250 people to form an outline of the famous bell on Independence Mall. At 9 am\, bells ring\, museums and historic sites open\, and the official flag is raised at the Betsy Ross House. Decoration Stations will be set up at participating attractions so families can deck themselves out in festive gear all day long. \nAt 11 am\, the Red\, White\, & Blue To-Do Pomp and Parade steps off from the National Constitution Center\, featuring 13 whimsical red wagon floats\, drill teams\, cultural dance troupes\, and youth performers from around the world. The parade travels past the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall before ending at Walnut Street. \nFrom 12 to 2 pm\, the All-American Block Party on 3rd Street features music\, games\, family-friendly activities\, food trucks\, and more\, produced in partnership with Wawa Welcome America. Philadelphia artists then take the stage for the Red\, White\, & Blue Music Series (2 to 5 pm) at ten locations throughout the Historic District. \nAt 5 pm\, the Red\, White\, & Rose Picnic begins on Independence Mall with picnic seating\, food trucks\, and a chance to check out the elaborate parade floats up close.
