Don’t miss an unforgettably unique performance of contemporary ballet. This fall series brings celebrated choreography and a brand-new world premiere to Philadelphia.
Experience a world premiere by Marguerite Donlon and the return of Matthew Neenan’s Mapping Out A Sky and Takehiro Ueyama’s Heroes.
Marguerite Donlon, praised for her “dizzyingly inventive scenes” (Irish Times), creates dynamic and poetic works with a touch of humor. Her premiere, inspired by the Irish dance of her youth and set to an original score by Paul Calderone, embodies transformation through imagination, determination, and courage.
Matthew Neenan, co-founder of BalletX, is celebrated for his groundbreaking choreography. His 2021 BalletX premiere Mapping Out A Sky, set to intimate live piano arrangements of classic Stephen Sondheim melodies, is “a formal investigation of time and space and something altogether more jazzy” (New York Times).
Takehiro Ueyama‘s Heroes returns by popular demand after its 2024 Festival at the Mann debut. Described as “athletic” and “acrobatic” by The Philadelphia Inquirer and set to music by John Adams and Kato Hideki, this powerful work tells the story of post-World War II Japan and the everyday heroes whose resilience and determination rebuilt a nation.
