Join Bartram’s Gardens and the Black Science Coalition and Institute for a free public showing of the documentary The Space Race. The Space Race takes a new look at the Space Age through the untold stories of Black astronauts.
In 1961, U.S. President John F. Kennedy selected a young test pilot named Edward Joseph “Ed” Dwight Jr. to become the first African American astronaut. While Ed was ultimately not selected by NASA, his cultural impact paved the way for those that followed. In honor of World Space Week, we’re celebrating his legacy.
