Hispanic Heritage for Teens: Create your own vejigante!

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by learning how to make a vejigante! Create masks while enjoying the traditional rhythms of bomba and plena.
The vejigante is a colorful, masked figure from Puerto Rican folklore, featured in festivals and carnivals throughout the island. Originally derived from medieval Spanish traditions, these figures symbolized demons or defeated Moors. Over time, however, they evolved to represent cultural resistance and identity, blending Spanish, African, and Taíno influences.
For teens aged 12-18.
