The Ecology of Fashion Saturday Workshop Series at the Academy of Natural Sciences

In conjunction with the museum’s The Ecology of Fashion exhibition, enjoy this series of drop-in workshops, where participants learn how to add sustainable practices into their lives. These workshops are free with general admission to the Academy.
February 1 – Indigo: Living Color
Explore the dynamic world of indigo dyeing with Green Matters Natural Dye Company. Participants will be given the opportunity to dye their own cotton bandana.
March 1 – Nature Made
Learn how people use nature to make natural dyes. Participants are invited to bring a tshirt or hat to make their own natural tie-dyed item.
April 5 – Reimagining Fiber Flax Industry in PA Today
See how the PA Flax Project transforms the flax plant into a natural fiber.
May 3 – Purchasing Power
Learn about microplastic problem in our world today.
June 7 – Downcycling, Recycling and Reuse: Fabscrap Education Series
Learn about the importance of downcycling and recycling in an order to reduce textile waste.
July 5 – Summer Styles
See how clothing production impacts the global environment. Transform a pair of shorts into a lunch bag.
