Woodmere Art Museum presents Tuesday Nights at the Movies
Woodmere is thrilled to announce its collaboration with Not So Silent Cinema for a special presentation of Alfred Hitchcock’s silent thriller, The Lodger: A Story of The London Fog, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. This screening is part of Woodmere’s Tuesday Nights at the Movies series. The Lodger, a landmark film in British cinema, is known for its atmospheric visuals, psychological tension, and suspenseful narrative set against the backdrop of fog-laden London, where a series of murders targeting women occurs as a mysterious lodger arrives.
For this special event, Not So Silent Cinema will perform a live accompaniment featuring Philadelphia composer Brendan Cooney’s 2014 score for The Lodger. Mr. Cooney’s composition draws inspiration from his previous work on scores for German Expressionist films such as Nosferatu and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, while also hinting at the sonic style that Bernard Herrmann would later bring to Hitchcock’s films. Under Mr. Cooney’s direction, Not So Silent Cinema has been composing and performing new scores for classic silent films since 2010. The ensemble believes in the power of live music to enhance cinematic storytelling, inspire audiences, and revitalize classic films.
