A Mission Rooted in Experience

Dr. Shroff’s professional women’s health journey began during a clinical rotation at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. “I learned certain medical issues not only presented differently in women, but were unique to women, and that many physicians were not trained in these areas,” she recalls. This experience sparked a passion that has driven her career ever since.

In 2017, Dr. Shroff returned to the University of Pittsburgh to complete a fellowship in Women’s Health and Medical Education at the VA Pittsburgh Medical Center, further solidifying her commitment to this field. Today, her mission is clear: “to improve women’s health through patient-centered primary care and women’s health education and to advance women in academic medicine.”

Excellence in Patient Care and Education

As a primary care physician at Jefferson Women’s Primary Care, Dr. Shroff consistently receives excellent patient reviews and achieves high quality care scores. Her dedication to patient care is matched only by her devotion to education and mentorship.

In her roles as Director of the Jefferson Women’s Resident Clinic and Women’s Health Elective, Dr. Shroff has mentored countless medical students and residents. Her approach to mentorship is holistic and deeply personal. “I always try to push my mentees to strive for excellence – to be the primary care doctor they would want their own family members to go to,” she explains. Her dedication to her mentees extends beyond professional development, as she regularly checks in on their personal well-being and provides support when needed.

Recognition and Leadership

Dr. Shroff’s excellence in teaching was recognized when she was named to the Jefferson Clinical Educators Honor Roll in 2023. In 2024, she was selected to Co-Chair the Career Advising Program of the national Society of General Internal Medicine, a program aimed at promoting women and underrepresented groups in academic medicine.

Balancing Multiple Roles

As a mother of three, primary care physician, and clinician educator, Dr. Shroff is no stranger to the challenges of balancing multiple responsibilities. “I think one thing I’ve learned is not to keep each role so separate all the time – that it’s not only okay, but maybe even a good thing, to allow the humanity of my family life to enter my professional life and to talk to my kids about my meaningful clinical and educational work.”

A Vision for the Future

By mentoring the next generation of women’s health physicians and advancing women in academic medicine, Dr. Shroff’s is helping to shape the future of healthcare. Her work ensures that more women will receive the specialized care they need and that more diverse voices will be represented in medical leadership.

Dr. Swati Shroff’s journey exemplifies the profound impact one individual can have when they combine professional excellence with a deep commitment to education and mentorship. Through her work at Thomas Jefferson University and beyond, Dr. Shroff’s continues to improve women’s health and empower the next generation of medical professionals.
