Unless Kids was started by parents who were tired of unused toys and kids gear cluttering the house and worried that these things could end up in the landfill. So they started an online toy store to serve Philly families with a wide variety of discounted new and pre-loved items that can find second lives with new families. They believe that sharing is built from the kid up and is ready to help manage your playroom to reduce the toy chaos.
Typically, parents are only buying a portion of the presents the kiddos will receive this holiday season. We are always looking for ways to not only support a community business, but to support a sustainable one. I had been considering joining Unless Kids for a few months and ran into Nic from Unless Kids at a street festival. He provided me with information that made me truly excited to join and I signed up on the spot! The obvious reasons to join are to keep toys out of landfills and cycle them through the community, spending less money on new toys that go straight to the donation pile and give toys that are in great shape a second (or third, or more!) life! Members receive free delivery which is also a huge plus and time saver for us. Their team clean the toys thoroughly and repair as able. They have the technology to clean and sanitize stuffed animals and other soft toys, which is a huge plus! I’m excited for the new features on the website and the potential for making “wish lists” to share with family and friends, which Nic expressed is coming soon!

I was looking for a sustainable toy solution after the toy rental service I was using closed – it just wasn’t an economically sustainable model. Literally at that moment Unless Kids popped up! I love being able to find well cared for toys at low cost. It’s a great way to test out a type of play without a big investment. As someone that uses something until it is dust I prefer buying used toys and knowing everything I buy will get a second (third, fourth, etc) life when I donate it back. And I love that, unlike the toy rental, there’s no shipping – it’s all local and e-bike delivered!

Unless Kids is the best way to try out a variety of toys. I don’t have the guilt from buying new, and I know if my kiddo doesn’t like something, then we can pass it along for another kiddo to enjoy! Having a fresh batch of toys every few months keeps my daughter busy and happy. Ordering online and the deliveries are super easy and I couldn’t feel better about supporting a local, eco-concious crew!

We have been so thrilled with our Unless Kids membership. The toy selection has been great for our 2 and almost 5 year olds. We get “new” toys from Unless Kids for plane rides and road trips, birthdays, Easter baskets, weeks off school, etc… and everyone is happy! The best part is returning the toys once the kids have moved on, and replacing with something different to entertain them. The delivery service is so friendly and easy to schedule.
