A Journey of Resilience and Growth

Capri’s journey in real estate began in 2004, just before the industry faced one of its most challenging periods. “As soon as I started to feel like I was getting a hang of it all, the recession hit,” Capri recalls. Despite the hardships, including a year where she made only $12,000, Capri’s determination never wavered. “I had about five jobs, selling hummus in grocery stores, shot-girl, cleaning houses, working the front-desk at the RE/MAX, all in addition to still working with Buyers and Sellers,” she shares. This resilience not only saw her through the recession but also laid the foundation for her future success.

Community Champion and Entrepreneur

Nominated by her friend and business partner Lindsay Meadow, Capri is described as someone “committed to empowering her community, consistently championing small businesses through her patronage and service on the board of the East Passyunk Association.” Capri eventually opened her own South Philly office. “At four months pregnant I signed a lease for our East Passyunk office,” Capri shares. “The office was immediately a success and we became a fixture of the community very quickly.”

Philanthropy and Endurance

Capri has raised over $250,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Eastern PA and an additional $10,000+ for CHOP through Children’s Miracle Network. Her involvement with Team In Training has led her to complete numerous endurance events, including marathons, triathlons, and a 100-mile bike ride around Lake Tahoe.

“This ride was 9+ hours long and included treacherous switchbacks, and a 7 mile steep climb,” Capri recalls of her Lake Tahoe experience. “I loved that I was able to face a fear, and continue to complete my mission even though the fear never really subsided.”

Empowering Women and Facing Challenges

Capri recently launched a curated athleisure collection, further solidifying her commitment to empowering women. Inspired by her own experiences as a busy mother, the line aims to support women trying to balance multiple responsibilities. Additionally, her openness about her IVF journey and plans to fundraise for infertility treatments demonstrate her dedication to supporting others facing similar challenges.

Mentorship and Community Involvement

Capri’s impact on her community is multifaceted. She has mentored for various programs, including DARE and Team In Training, but finds particular joy in training new real estate agents. “One of my most recent and most fun mentees, Sam, is a great example,” Capri shares. “We were able to create a plan and program to engage his existing sphere and now he is definitely a rising star in Philadelphia!”

A Unique Perspective on Balance

When it comes to balancing her various roles and responsibilities, Capri offers a refreshing perspective. “I don’t think there is balance in life, in the true sense of the word,” she explains. Instead, she advocates for understanding one’s own rhythm and adapting accordingly. “Once I discovered my form of ‘balance’, life truly became more enjoyable,” she reflects.

Looking to the Future

Capri’s goals remain grounded in positivity. “Peace, love, and happiness for my friends, family, and the world,” she states as her aspirations. “In the words of Anna from Frozen 2, I just need to do ‘the next right thing’. I will believe in the butterfly effect and know that even small choices can make big changes.”

Capri Dessecker continues to be a driving force for positive change in South Philadelphia and beyond. As Lindsay Meadow aptly puts it, “Capri enriches the lives of all who know her, making anyone fortunate enough to have her in their life truly blessed.”
