All-School Thematic Learning at Friends’ Central Lower School

Friends’ Central Lower School brings students together through all-school thematic learning that sparks creativity, collaboration, and joyful discovery.

More schools are looking for ways to make learning feel connected, meaningful, and shared across grades. What if an entire school explored the same big idea—together—while allowing each age group to dive in at their own level?

At Friends’ Central Lower School in Wynnewood, all-school thematic learning does exactly that. Each year, students from Nature Nursery through Grade 5 engage in a unifying theme—like Journeys—woven through reading, writing, science, art, and math, encouraging curiosity, collaboration, and deeper understanding. The experience culminates in shared celebrations and projects that highlight creativity, reflection, and the joy of learning as a community.

Friends’ Central School is a Quaker, independent, co-educational, college-preparatory day school for students in nursery through grade 12. Located on 41 acres across two campuses in Wynnewood, Pa., Friends’ Central cultivates the intellectual, spiritual, and ethical promise of our students. Guided by Quaker values, since 1845, we have been educating for excellence, inspiring tomorrow’s leaders, honoring each individual, and encouraging our students to peacefully transform the world.
