Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the day when the last enslaved Black people in Texas were freed by Union soldiers on June 19, 1865. Black Americans have celebrated the holiday since 1866, but it was only recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
There are many ways to celebrate Juneteenth in Philadelphia this year, from special museum programs and block parties, to the big parade and festival. Join the fun at one of these family-friendly events.

Philadelphia is celebrating Juneteenth with exciting family-friendly events happening throughout the city. From museum festivals to the nation’s largest parade, there’s something for everyone.
Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom at Penn Museum
3260 South Street, Philadelphia
June 14, 2025 from 10 am – 6 pm
Celebrate freedom, heritage, and community at Penn Museum. Free and open to the public, this Juneteenth festival includes performances, DJ sets, storytelling, and all-ages activities. There will be a community marketplace where you can support Black-owned businesses, and local food trucks with tasty bites.
Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival at Johnson House Historic Site
6306 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia
June 14, 2025 from 12 pm – 7 pm
Johnson House Historic Site is hosting its 19th annual Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival! This celebration has offerings for the whole family, from panel discussions to performance arts and historic tours. Enjoy a vendor marketplace and food trucks with all kinds of goodies available for purchase. The event is free to attend.
Juneteenth at Please Touch Museum
4231 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia
June 19, 2025 from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
Kids always have a fantastic time celebrating holidays at Please Touch Museum. For Juneteenth, they can add to a community painting, listen to a story about a special summer, enjoy a performance by the Chocolate Ballerina Company, print their own tote bags, and do a cool science workshop.
Juneteenth Block Party and Free Museum Day at AAMP
701 Arch Street, Philadelphia
June 19, 2025 from 10 am – 7 pm
Head to the African American Museum in Philadelphia for their Juneteenth Block Party & Free Museum Day. In partnership with Wawa and Welcome America, AAMP is hosting a family-friendly outdoor festival full of games, education, and entertainment. Some of the entertainment will be provided by Grammy Award-winning Philadelphia native DJ Drama and hip-hop legends DJ Kid Capri and Slick Rick. Guests can also enjoy free admission to check out the museum’s newest exhibitions.
Philadelphia Juneteenth Parade and Festival
South Concourse Drive (across from the Mann Center) & Malcolm X Park (52nd & Pine), Philadelphia
June 22, 2025 from 10 am to 8 pm
Come and cheer on the largest Juneteenth parade in the nation. The Philadelphia Juneteenth Parade and Festival includes a Marketplace & Art in the Park with over 250 vendors, a Youth Pavilion, and a Music Festival for all ages.
