Little City Montessori Schools
Description
Little City Montessori (LCM) is an independent, private school serving Fishtown, Northern Liberties and Olde Kensington families from toddler through elementary (18 months to 12 years old). LCM blends individualized Montessori learning with structured movement and play. They are a licensed private academic school with a certified Kindergarten program and proud members of the American Montessori Society.
Montessori philosophy is anchored in the idea that every child has unique potential. By allowing each student to lead their own educational journey in a prepared, compassionate and safe environment, the Montessori approach kindles the love of learning and develops the whole child. Montessori education is composed of five key areas: practical life, language, math, sensorial and cultural studies. Their teachers function as guides rather than instructors, providing tools and encouragement, while also allowing space for children to learn independently at their own pace.
At Little City, they believe physical activity and enrichment should be part of the school day, not another item on a familyโs to-do list. Thatโs why they integrate extracurriculars into their curriculum, giving children space to move, play, and explore during their regular school hours. From gymnastics to music to gardening, these offerings help lay the foundation for a healthy, active lifestyle from the very beginning.

Our 5 year old daughter couldnโt be happier at Little City. Not only is her curiosity and creativity being fostered, but she is also gaining knowledge and independence. During this difficult and unprecedented time the staff and teachers have gone above and beyond to create a safe and healthy learning environment. We are very grateful. – Medb B.
My son enrolled at LCM in the beginning of the school year, and we absolutely love it! The staff/teachers are so kind and interested in each childโs needs and personality. We participate in after care and our son is always entertained and given personal attention. The owners are transparent and communicate often. Canโt say enough good things about Little City! So happy to be a part of their community. – Lindsay L.

We had no idea when we joined LCM that they would have such a tremendous impact on our family. They care about each child individually, they promote togetherness, equality and giving back to the community. They noticed our child needed some extra help and not only did they give us some techniques to help improve development, they pointed us in right direction to external resources as well. We have seen such a positive improvement in our child and we have LCM to thank. We look forward to the continued educational and developmental growth that LCM will provide in the years to come. We are consistently referring this special school to our dear friends and family, and appreciate the continued support.

Little City Montessori is such a wonderful early learning environment. The teachers and staff are beyond caring. They really strive to make sure every child feels welcome, safe and excited to learn. All the classrooms are bright, airy and promote creative learning. Thereโs so much for every child to explore in each room. The lessons the kindergarteners learn have exceeded my expectations, as theyโve already learned about the solar system, the human body and are constantly exploring nature and the world around them. Little City is also more than a school but, a community that truly supports the neighborhood itโs in and the families it serves.

I currently have a two-year-old at Little City and I cannot be any happier with her progress with meeting milestones. The teachers work with you to achieve potty training by the end of the school year. Also, last year my oldest completed kindergarten, and she went into first grade knowing how to read and perform math equations. In addition to the academic aspects of the curriculum the activity part is a significant plus. All the classes offered during the week: yoga, dance, martial arts. Both of my daughters love them. Iโm so happy this school is there for our children.

My son started at Little City this fall and I have nothing but rave reviews. The staff is amazing, communicative and well-versed in the Montessori approach to learning. We withdrew him from the kindergarden where he started in August and enrolled him at Little City – the change in school environments has been a transformative experience for my son, who often exhibited resistance going to school in the morning. He wakes up excited to go and is never eager to leave after-care when I arrive. He has so many things to tell me about his day and his accomplishments. The staff and approach have given him a new confidence in his abilities within the school setting, opportunities to learn and develop his leadership skills and new experiences every day. He is learning. He is happy…. and so am I.
