America 250 in Philadelphia
This year, America celebrates its 250th birthday and Philadelphia — the birthplace of the nation — is ground zero for the celebrations.
Centered around Independence Day, the Wawa Welcome America Festival features a trove of exciting events for families. Highlights include the Juneteenth Jubilee, Philly Fair 250 (multiple days), and Kidchella Music Festival. Get pumped for Independence Day at the Waterfront Concert & Fireworks, and the All American Block Party.
With America’s semiquincentennial summer upon us, this year’s July 4th Concert for America + Fireworks on the Parkway promises a celebration to remember. Philadelphia’s July 4th finale takes over the Benjamin Franklin Parkway with free, family-friendly fun. Festivities kick off at 4 pm, leading into a massive free concert at 7 pm. Christina Aguilera, Jill Scott, Will Smith, and more take the stage. The night wraps up with the city’s biggest fireworks display over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Philly also boasts the FIFA World Cup 26 and Fan Fest on Lemon Hill and the MLB All-Star Game.

Summer 2026 Pop-Ups and More
Philadelphia’s outdoor spaces come to life in the summer, adding excitement to summer days and nights in the city.
The Delaware River Waterfront returns with their RiverRink Summerfest and the Spruce Street Harbor Park. This year, Summerfest embraces the theme of “nautical summer,” and features the return of roller skating through early September! You’ll also find mini-golf, an enormous arcade, amusement rides, and delicious eats.
Enjoy the scenic riverside view at Spruce Street Harbor Park from a floating hammock amid technicolor lights. Live live music and diverse food vendors add fun flavor to the experience. This year, families can even enjoy Tai Chi, Chiliboats Adventure, and new, Swan Boats. Returning favorites include The Blue Anchor bar, The Lazy Hammock with a 20-foot stage and giant screen, and Little Fish Outpost for fresh seafood. The Grove and Trading Post round out the experience with shaded seating, ice cream, snacks, and local merch.
The Oval at the Parkway typically opens mid-July through late August (dates TBA for summer 2026). This pop up experience transforms Eakins Oval into Philadelphia’s central park. Find an array of family-friendly activities, food, games, music, entertainment, and free special events. It’s a must-visit destination for relaxation and fun in the city.
From June 5–August 16, the Chinese Lantern Festival transforms Franklin Square with giant, glowing lantern sculptures. Hang around to watch the lively Fountain Show, then tee off with a game of 18-hole, Philly-themed mini golf. The little kiddos will love the spacious, modern playground and the vintage carousel (ticket required for the carousel). Topping it off, SquareBurger serves classic American fare like burgers, fries, and shakes, ideal for a family meal or snack.

Drinking Outdoors (with Kids in Tow)
Summer brings back Parks on Tap, offering a wonderful opportunity to enjoy outdoor drinks with the kids. It’s not just about planning a relaxing evening for adults; it’s also a chance to explore Philadelphia’s beautiful parks and contribute to the community.
There are also great locales like the PHS Pop-Up Gardens (South Street and Manayunk) and Morgan’s Pier on the Delaware River. Of course, the aforementioned Summerfest and Spruce Street Harbor make up the other Delaware River Waterfront attractions. All of these fun and laidback environments make room for both craft beers and sippy cups. See our full list of kid-friendly beer gardens here!
