The Nazarian Family, The Haverford School

Learn more about this family's experience at the all-boys, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school.

The Navarian Family from The Haverford School

In his practice as an orthopedic surgeon, David Nazarian has met alumni from every school in the area. He had always been struck by graduates of The Haverford School for their confidence, poise, and natural inclination to help others.

When he and his wife, Jody, began looking at schools for their children, they knew there were many options available to a Center City family. The search narrowed quickly, Jody said.

We decided early on in our school search that private school education was the best choice for us as a family,” she said. “Although the initial search seemed daunting, as we learned more about each of the individual private schools in the area, the choice of The Haverford School became increasingly obvious for us.”

For their two boys — George, 6, is a kindergartner, and 4-year-old John John is in pre-kindergarten — it was an easy call, because of Haverford’s expertise in educating boys. (The Nazarians also have a daughter, Grace, who’s 3.) The pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school is focused on the needs of boys and how they learn.

“Everyone at all levels, from the headmaster on downward, focuses on the best way to educate boys and mature them into responsible men,” Jody said. “This mindset creates a comfortable and tolerant environment for our boys to explore intellectually, artistically and athletically.”

The Nazarians, who live in Rittenhouse Square, initially worried about transportation. But they found lots of options, and their concerns have been overshadowed by “the overwhelming sentiment that we are affording the best opportunity for our boys,” Jody said.

The school’s strong academics and top-notch facilities were obvious from the first time they visited. The Nazarians also love the way Haverford helps their boys build relationships: with their families, their teachers, and their classmates.

“The school and its teachers constantly and continuously foster a sense of collegiality between school and parent,” Jody said. “ The emphasis on this close connection with families helps the boys to create better relationships with their peers as well as their mentors.”

George and John John are thriving at Haverford, she said.

“The Haverford faculty and staff accept their role as the educational steward of your boy very seriously and with great honor,” Jody said.

“We feel exceedingly blessed to have chosen The Haverford School for our boys because we know that this school experience will serve them well throughout their lives.”
