PAFA’s Award-Winning Summer Camp, Onsite and Online

Unleash your child's imagination and inner Picasso, Stan Lee, or Steven Spielberg this summer. Campers make new friends, create artworks, and explore playful ideas at PAFA's art camps.

We are excited to announce that in addition to their Virtual Art Camp, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts will be hosting several small, in-person camps for Summer 2021 for ages 6 to 14. Designed for all skill levels, your children can make new friends, create artworks, and explore playful ideas at PAFA’s award-winning art camps. Every week is a new artistic adventure and celebration of creativity and friendship at PAFA Art Camp. Explore individual weeks or register for the whole summer.

Art Camp serves ages 6-14. For teens 15 and older, visit Teens and Pre-College Summer Programs.

ONSITE

In-person camp provides weekly artistic adventures and celebrations of creativity and friendship. Campers enjoy art-making of all kinds in a safe, accessible environment with highly skilled instructors. Unleash your child’s imagination and inner Picasso, Stan Lee or Steven Spielberg this summer. Various thematic weeks are created for different age groups and involve painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, comics, and mixed-media projects in the historic studios of the oldest art school and museum in the United States.

Each week of camp is as unique as your children’s interests. Sessions include age-appropriate creative play and rest times, reading and storytelling, and socializing. Campers visit museum galleries for tours led by art educators and occasionally take walks to the nearby park (weather permitting). Every Friday, campers prepare for an Art Exhibition where their work from throughout the week is on view; family and friends of the campers are virtually invited to the exhibition this year. COVID-19 Safety Precautions

To ensure a safe summer experience for campers and counselors, PAFA will follow the most updated guidelines from the Philadelphia Department of Health and the CDC. Summer Art Camp will take place in PAFA’s Historic Landmark Building again with new, recommended safety measures as part of PAFA’s safe reopening plan. Instructors for virtual and in-person camps are separate teams and focus on their mode of instruction. To ensure best safety practices, summer camp will operate at 25% enrollment.

ONLINE

PAFA’s online camp returns for another year to keep your campers safe, occupied, and socialized all summer. PAFA’s virtual art camp is a perfect fit for busy families with creative youngsters at home. Daily schedules include both group work and individual art-making activities, time for making friends, and projects for campers to do with the Art Toolbox that arrives at your front door!

Virtual camp days will include a well-balanced mixture of:

  • Live Zooming and friendship-making time (prescheduled so your family can plan ahead!)
  • Off-screen activities for independent play and learning (and naps! and yard time!)
  • Hands-on activities with real art materials (art camp should be a little messy!)
  • Small group sizes ensure that campers receive high-quality instruction and individual attention from their teachers.
  • Daily movement and mindfulness exercise integrated throughout the day to get the wiggles out.

Camp tuition includes an Art Toolbox mailed to your home and a live online exhibition every Friday that family near and far can attend via Zoom.
