A Homeschool Alternative for Philadelpha Families: Part-Time, In-Person Learning at Cupola Academy

Homeschool flexibility or school community? Discover a homeschool alternative in Malvern, PA that offers both in a part-time program built on partnership

Many Main Line families feel stuck between two options. Traditional school offers community, experienced teachers, and resources, but less flexibility. Homeschooling allows a more personalized approach. Yet parents often end up carrying academics, enrichment, and social connection alone.

Cupola Academy in Malvern, PA offers a homeschool alternative built on partnership. For more than fifty years, its founding family has refined an approach called Partnership Education™. It rests on a simple idea: a child’s education is strongest when everyone invested in their growth works together.

Partnership Education™, Explained

With Cupola’s Partnership Education, young people are active participants in their education, not passive recipients. Experienced Facilitators design challenging activities rooted in applied academics and real-world problems. They also offer guidance, mentorship, and resources. Parents stay closely connected, and a community of peers, families, educators, and alumni surrounds them all.

Two or Three Days a Week on a 10-Acre Campus

Cupola Academy serves students ages 4–18 through part-time, in-person programs. Students spend two or three days a week on a picturesque 10-acre campus in Malvern. The rest of the week belongs to families. They can fill it with independent study, outside classes, travel, or a child’s particular passions, with Cupola’s support throughout.

Hands-On Learning Beyond the Textbook

Cupola believes childhood wonder and real-world readiness belong together. Academic growth matters. But so do curiosity, creativity, resilience, critical thinking, and integrity.

Learning here is collaborative and interdisciplinary. On any given day, students might:

  • Launch rockets to test their physics calculations
  • Draft a business plan for a youth-led pop-up shop
  • Explore Shakespeare through performance
  • Build something in the woodshop
  • Investigate the natural world outdoors

Rather than traditional grades, students receive reflection and descriptive feedback. Facilitators know when to ask a question, introduce a new skill, or simply let an idea unfold. Students are also expected to stretch themselves, collaborate, and take growing responsibility for their own learning.

Support for Parents, Not Just Students

Choosing an alternative education shouldn’t mean parents must become a school themselves. Cupola’s directors and Facilitators work alongside families at every stage. They help with the transition out of conventional school, setting goals, and meeting challenges as they arise.

Families also join a wider community. Gatherings, workshops, and mentorship connect parents with others who understand the questions a less conventional path can bring. What began in a one-room schoolhouse is now a learning community of more than 100 people.

See If Cupola Is the Right Fit

Flexibility, personalization, community, and support don’t have to be trade-offs. At Cupola Academy, they come together through Partnership Education™.
