Founded in 1920 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Norwood-Fontbonne Academy, which is located on 14 beautiful acres in nearby Chestnut Hill, offers families the unique choice between the Montessori program or the Primary program for ages 3 - Grade 3, followed by challenging, active learning experiences in Grades 4 - 8.
Home to dozens of clubs and extracurricular activities, NFA offers its students the chance to engage their learning, passions, and curiosity well beyond the classroom. Through the 11-year journey at NFA, they position our students to enter the wider world aware of their own worth and their power as a positive force for good.
The Class of 2024 earned nearly $700,000 in scholarships and awards, and had an acceptance rate of 92% to elite high schools in the Philadelphia area.
As a sponsored work of the Sisters of St. Joseph, NFA daily furthers the SSJ mission “to live and work so that all people may be united with God and one another.” Their Vision Statement declares that the NFA student is one who enjoys learning; treasures self, others, and the Earth; lives Gospel values; and makes reflective choices as a self-directed person.

We are so glad that we have chosen to send our children to Norwood-Fontbonne Academy. At NFA, we have the opportunity either to choose the Montessori experience or the primary/traditional experience, knowing that each environment is going to benefit the needs of our children. We see our children coming home with empathy in their hearts, empathy for their environment around them and people around them and it’s all due to the skills and the ethics that they are teaching inside the classroom. The student are doing community service projects and they’re also learning about people around them. The education at Norwood-Fontbonne Academy is outstanding. The children come home engaged and excited and ready to learn the next day. We are so thrilled that we made this decision to send our children to NFA.
